The practical effects in the film are the film's greatest strength. Hatchet 3 is a horror movie that uses CG effects in a lesser degree than other films. Hatchet 3 has a lot of practical makeup effects and sets, which results in some really horrific scenes in the movie.
Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. The dialogue feels like (click link) a 1980s slasher movie. It's funny and hilarious. There are some funny moments that stand out against all the gut-wrenching scenes.
Due to the budget being small (1 million dollars) most locations were duplicates from previous films. Hatchet 2's boat house was only used once and the rest of the footage feels like it's been reused from earlier films. Hatchet or Hatchet II may find it familiar, which could result in the movie feeling too familiar.
Overall, Hatchet 3 was an enjoyable series. I liked the gory thrills it offered as well as the engaging performances by the actors.
